Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, quiet town. The West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never been aware of it frequently mistake it for an island that is west-facing. It is often cited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel grew to be a young woman in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt led to her growing beyond her dance partner. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 foot 1 inch tall. When I reached the height of my male counterparts then I stopped. Former dancers often turn into acting. In the instance of Brugel,, it was a suggestion by her teacher of drama. The teacher recommended that she audition for an annual school production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the lead actress of Anne of Green Gables. It led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, she's appeared in over 60 productions both large and small. One of the most memorable was the time she was cast as Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in Season 1 which was viewed only occasionally.
